What to Expect from a Visit
 |
You should allow at least 2 hours for the first
visit, follow up visits will become shorter as your
horse progresses.
Your horse will be walked and trotted up to assess
gait, conformation, and any existing lameness
issues. The structures of the foot will be fully
assessed and a Spectrum of Usability completed.
This will help to establish the overall |
health of the feet and
identify any problems that need addressing. We will
also discuss all other aspects of your horse’s care,
such as nutrition, environment and exercise.
If appropriate, the HPT Method may be applied and
photographs taken to enable you to keep track of
your horse’s progress.
To begin with, follow on visits may be as frequent
as every 2 or 4 weeks, but once the new pattern of
growth is established the time between visits can be
lengthened.
A detailed conditioning programme will be discussed
and agreed upon, based on the health of the feet and
the facilities you have available. Teamwork is vital
in Applied Equine Podiatry – the conditioning work
carried out between visits is vital to the
rehabilitation and continued health of any equine
foot, so your understanding of the issues addressed
is very important.
